Uniform changes always stir debate—some fans crave tradition, others welcome a fresh look. No matter where you land, there’s no denying City Connect uniforms have kept baseball fans talking.
Nike launched the City Connect series in 2021, teaming up with MLB clubs to design uniforms that capture the culture and character of each team’s city—mirroring the NBA’s city jersey program that started in 2017.
As of the end of 2024, 29 City Connect uniforms had been released—including two editions for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 2025, several teams are rolling out their second wave of designs. The Astros, Nationals, Giants, Rockies, and White Sox have already dropped theirs, while new uniforms from the Marlins (debuting May 3), Diamondbacks (May 9), and Red Sox (May 16) are still to come.
That leaves just two teams without a City Connect jersey to date: the Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees.
Spotlight: White Sox 2025 City Connect Uniform
The White Sox’s second City Connect release takes a unique approach—it blends the identities of two of Chicago’s major sports franchises: the White Sox and the Bulls. It’s the first on-field MLB jersey to integrate branding from an NBA team.
The design leans into shared visual elements between the two teams. Most notably, the jersey features bold pinstripes and a “Chicago” wordmark reminiscent of both the Bulls’ modern black uniforms and the Sox’s 1930s-era styling. The color palette—black and red—mirrors the Bulls’ signature look.
In another first, the White Sox are also introducing two City Connect caps to pair with the uniform. One includes red and black pinstripes and four Chicago stars on the crown. The other features a reimagined “winged sock” logo that references the franchise’s 1950s history. Inside the cap, black pinstripes and a “Southside” nod tie back to the team’s original City Connect drop.
The uniform also incorporates symbols of success—the neckline lists all nine championships won between the Bulls and White Sox. “Southside” appears again on the pants and sleeves as a tribute to the original look.
ESPN’s Take:
David Schoenfield of ESPN gave the White Sox-Bulls crossover a grade of B. “Given the White Sox are coming off a historically rough stretch, leaning into Chicago’s basketball glory isn’t a bad move,” Schoenfield noted. “It’s not the most groundbreaking idea, but the fans are going to eat it up. And that hat with the winged sock? That’s a winner.”
He jokingly suggested the team go all-in on the Bulls nostalgia: “Get MJ and Pippen to throw out the first pitches, maybe hand out Horace Grant bobbleheads.”
