Does Narcissus flower need a novice gardener?

I've never really had a green thumb, but I’m trying to brighten up my patio. I continue to see the Narcissus flower that has been suggested as a beginner. I was browsing gardening tools on abodelook and they have some nice cheap starter packages, but I am not going to commit myself to have these flowers dying on me in a week. Are they as set it and forget it as they say?
